Founded in 1961, the plant has been producing products that have won numerous awards at domestic and international exhibitions for over 50 years.

In 1961, the plant of normalized machine units was established on the basis of a glass container plant. The plant produced its first batch (normals) in June 1961 and was called the Gomel Plant of Normalized Units.
In 1970, the plant began manufacturing units for universal machines: feed boxes and aprons.
From 1976-1991 the plant was part of the Moscow production association "Krasny Proletarii".
In 1972, the production of radial drilling machines model 2E52 was mastered.
In November 1975, the plant of normalized units was renamed into the Gomel Machine Units Plant.
From this period, the plant expanded the range of units for universal machines and masters the production of radial drilling machines of 2K52, 2K52-1, 2K522, GS544, GS545 models.
In 1992, the plant began to produce universal lathes of the GS526 model and its execution.
In 2005, the production of CNC lathes model 16GS25F3 with the largest diameter of the workpiece being machined 500 mm above the bedplate and DBs 1000 mm was mastered. On bedplates, CNC systems "SIEMENS", "FAGOR" and "Mitsubishi" are used (by order of the consumer they can be equipped with other systems) for processing parts of a complex profile which can be used in various industries.
In 2006, the production of a new radial drilling machine with the largest drilling diameter of 50mm was mastered.
Nowadays, the plant produces:
Machine tools of the turning group:
● universal screw-cutting lathe model GS526, designed to perform a variety of turning operations in chuck centers, as well as for threading. Machine tools of GS 526U, GS 526UM, GS 526U-01, GS 526UM-01, GS 526U-02, GS 526UM-02, etc. models with the length of the installed part from 1000 to 2000 mm are based on it. The machines can be equipped with drilling and milling devices that allow additional drilling, milling and threading at different angles on parts mounted on the lathe capilar;
● lathes with DRO;
● CNC lathes;
● machine units (feed boxes and aprons for screw-cutting lathes, automatic heads for CNC machines).
Drilling group machines:
● range of radial drilling machines (2K522-03, GS545, 2K550V models);
● vertical drilling machine model 2T140 (maximum drilling diameter 40mm);
● range of desktop drilling machines (machines of the GS2116K, GS2112, 2P118 models).
In 2008, the plant manufactured a prototype CNC lathe model 16GS25SU with an operational control system, as well as a new CNC lathe model GS1725F3, a vertical drilling machine model 2T125 and 2T150.
Since 2005, radial drilling machines model 2K522, GS545, screw-cutting lathes GS526UE and its modifications have been certified for compliance with the basic safety requirements of the European Union directives of the new and global approach and have the right to apply the CE marking.
The production of machine tools and machine components is certified for compliance with the requirements of STB ISO 9001-2009.
Since November 26, 2010, the plant has been renamed into Gomel Machine Tools Units Plant, JSC.
Machine tools and components manufactured at the enterprise have repeatedly received awards at various international specialized exhibitions. The products of the GMUP are the winner of the competition "The Best Goods of the Republic of Belarus in 2003, 2004 and 2005" and "The Best Goods of the Republic of Belarus in the Russian Federation Market".
